X (Twitter) post formatter

Fit your message into 280 characters without losing its punch.

Updated November 2026

X rewards brevity. A standard post is limited to 280 characters, and every double space, blank line or duplicated hashtag eats into that budget. Formatting for X is mostly subtraction: removing everything that isn't doing work.

How X counts characters

  • Standard accounts get 280 characters per post; X Premium allows much longer posts, but only the first 280 show before “Show more”.
  • Every link counts as 23 characters, however long the URL actually is.
  • Most emoji and many non-Latin characters (such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean) count as two characters.
  • Line breaks count as characters too — a blank line costs two.

SnappyTextMaker's counter shows a simple character count, so treat links and emoji as a little “heavier” than they look and leave yourself a small buffer.

What the X preset does

The X preset collapses line breaks into single spaces, removes doubled spaces, and if the result is still over 280 characters it trims at the limit and adds an ellipsis. The preview highlights any overflow in red, so you can decide what to cut rather than letting the tool cut it for you.

Writing tighter posts

One idea per post

If you need “and also…”, it's probably a second post or a thread.

Swap phrases for words

“In order to” → “to”. “At this point in time” → “now”. Small edits recover 10–20 characters fast.

Hashtags: one or two

On X, more than two hashtags tends to look like spam. Strip Hashtags removes them all in one click.

Put the link last

A link at the end keeps the sentence readable and the preview card tidy.

Share straight to X

When you're happy with the preview, Share to X opens X's own compose window in a new tab with your post already filled in. You post from your own signed-in account — SnappyTextMaker never sees your login or your followers.
